The UIS Softball team is 11-11 in GLVC play after a doubleheader split with the McKendree Bearcats on Sunday. The Prairie Stars were shut out in the 7-0 in the top half of the doubleheader before coming back to win 4-3 in game two.

Game One (L, 7-0)
  • Four McKendree hits in the first inning put UIS behind by three runs
  • McKendree added insurance runs with a 2 RBI double in the next inning
  • Olivia DeLuca was 2-3 while Isabella Wilson had the team's only other hit. DeLuca and Wilson had a double apiece
  • McKendree pitcher Ellie Quathem (18-7) found five strikeouts and did not allow a walk to keep the Prairie Stars out of contention
  • Rosie Bartletti fell to 8-8 after 7.0 innings in the circle

Game Two (W, 4-3)
  • McKendree scored on an RBI groundout in the first inning of game two
  • Ella Brinkley and Isabella Wilson both singled in the first 
  • McKendree fielded well to find the first two outs, but couldn't stop UIS from scoring a run when Sophie Margelot doubled to center field
  • The Bearcats added a run in the third with an RBI triple
  • UIS responded with two runs on three hits to take a 3-2 lead
  • McKendree went scoreless for the next three innings while UIS added a run on two singles and a stolen base in the fourth
  • McKendree earned a run in the seventh due to a bases loaded walk, but the Prairie Stars rallied behind starting pitcher Taylor Zawacki
  • With the bases loaded up with Bearcats, senior shortstop Sophie Margelot made a leaping catch for the final out
  • Zawacki improved to 5-6 overall with the complete game win

The Prairie Stars will close the regular season on the road next weekend against the top teams in the GLVC softball standings. UIS will meet Lewis in Romeoville on Saturday, April 27 before traveling to Indianapolis, Ind. to face UIndy on Sunday, April 28.
