Dr. Kristi Barnwell will be presenting, “Craft at Home and Abroad: From Personal Practice to Exploring Forms of Craft in the Middle East,” on Tuesday November 15 in the Visual Arts Gallery at 2pm. In addition to being a historian of the Middle East, Dr. Barnwell is an accomplished knitter, and this has inspired new directions in her scholarship. In this talk, she will discuss ways women’s craft connects to a sense of individual identity, broader community, and the role of craft in preserving and directing national identities in the Middle East.
This talk is part of the International Education Week initiative by the US Department of State and the US Department of Education. Information about IEW at UIS is available here.
