Rowan Severson of Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, a senior at Mount Horeb High School, has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield for Fall Semester 2024 and awarded a $28,000 Capital Scholars Honors Program Scholarship for tuition over four years. At UIS, she plans to major in psychology and play on the Prairie Stars women’s soccer team.

The scholarship is awarded based on high school GPA and can be renewed for a total of four years if the student maintains college GPA requirements.

At Mount Horeb High School, she is a member of the student council, DECA and canvassing. She also plays hockey and soccer.

“I chose UIS because of the size of the school, the openness and freedom the school brings and the beautiful campus they provide,” Severson said. “It also has some cute places to eat, and I know I will make everlasting friends.”

Following graduation from UIS, she plans to attend graduate school to become a child and family therapist.

Capital Scholars Honors Program scholarships are competitive and are based on high school GPA. The Honors Program is a selective undergraduate program combining high standards and emphasis on excellence with a small residential college model, enrolling only about 100 first-year students each year.
