The University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team has been ranked 5th in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) preseason poll, as announced today by the league office.

The preseason poll is selected by the league's head coaches, who, per GLVC Bylaws, are not permitted to vote for their own team.

The Lewis Flyers were picked first with 185 points and five first-place votes. The reigning conference tournament champion Indianapolis Greyhounds were tabbed second, receiving six first-place votes. Maryville, McKendree, and UIS rounded out the top five positions in the league's preseason poll.

Last season, the Prairie Stars claimed the league's regular-season title with a 10-0-3 record in the GLVC, conceding only one goal throughout the conference season. UIS reached the GLVC Tournament Final for the second time in three years but were defeated by the Indianapolis Greyhounds in a penalty shootout. The Prairie Stars also made their third consecutive appearance in the NCAA DII Tournament a season ago.

UIS is set to open the regular season In Hammond, Ind. against Purdue Northwest on Sunday, Sept. 8. GLVC play begins for UIS at William Jewell College on Sunday, Sept. 15.
