UIS Speech and Debate Team Starts the New Year
SPRINGFIELD, IL (October 1, 2018) – After a brief hiatus this spring, the UIS Speech and Debate team has returned for the new competitive season. Over the summer, the team was relocated back to the Department of Communication and a new director has been hired. The team is now looking for new recruits to relaunch this successful program.
Timothy Bill, previously the director of the University of Kentucky team, will spearhead these efforts. As coach at UK, he lead the team to four top ten placings at nationals, coached two national champions, and hosted the 2016 Pi Kappa Delta national competition. He has had students recognized at the national level in nearly every category of speech and debate events.
“I am incredibly excited for our future here at UIS” says Director Bill. “The students at UIS are incredibly capable and I know we’ll be competing against the best in the nation in no time.” Anyone who is interested in joining the team should contact Director Bill for more information.
The University of Illinois Springfield Speech and Debate Team is committed to training the next generation of civic leaders, public speakers, and communicators who are passionate about effecting change in their communities. The team is housed in the Department of Communication in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. To find out more, please visit the Speech and Debate site.
