The UIS volleyball team continues the start of conference play this weekend with a long road trip. The Prairie Stars take on the Truman State Bulldogs on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. and Upper Iowa on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
UIS is 9-4 after splitting their first home matches of the season last weekend. The Prairie Stars pulled out an impressive five-set win against the Missouri S&T Miners on Friday night. Going back and forth, neither team could gain control until UIS managed to open a slight lead in the fifth set. A crucial kill from Eirini Glynou secured the victory for the Prairie Stars, kicking off their conference play with a win on Friday night (25-21, 19-25, 25-23, 20-25, 15-11).
On Saturday afternoon, the Prairie Stars faced Maryville in their annual Homecoming game. UIS took the first two sets, but a third-set comeback by the Saints set the stage for a reverse sweep. Maryville dominated set four, forcing a decisive fifth set. Despite the Prairie Stars holding a 12-7 lead, the Saints rallied with five consecutive points to tie it up. Both teams struggled to gain the upper hand until a kill and a UIS ball-handling error gave Maryville the win. UIS fell to 1-1 in GLVC play after the loss (25-23, 25-19, 23-25, 13-25, 15-17).
