The GLVC slate continues for both men's and women's basketball this weekend, while the tennis teams are the only teams at home, hosting DII opponent Washburn for their regular season opener on Saturday. Softball also kicks off its season, with UIS playing two games a day on Friday and Saturday in Smyrna, Tenn. Indoor track and field is taking the week off as they prepare for the Lewis Invite in Chicago on February 7.
Thursday, Jan. 30
5:30 p.m. - Women's Basketball at Missouri-St. Louis
UIS (4-15, 3-8 GLVC) looks ahead to a pair of road games, starting in St. Louis, Mo., on Thursday night. The Prairie Stars will face the UMSL Tritons (14-4, 8-3 GLVC) a team they lost 87-67 to when they met at TRAC on November 30th. However, UIS has since won four games. This past weekend, UIS defeated Missouri S&T before falling to GLVC-leading Drury. UMSL currently sits fourth in the GLVC standings, while UIS is in 14th.
7:30 p.m. - Men's Basketball at Missouri-St. Louis
The Prairie Stars (10-9, 5-6 GLVC) and the Tritons (9-9, 7-4 GLVC) are set for a Thursday night matchup in St. Louis. UMSL earned a 69-64 victory when the teams met to start GLVC play. UIS lost to No. 9-ranked Missouri S&T on Thursday before bouncing back to defeat Drury 73-64 on Saturday. UMSL currently sits fifth in the GLVC standings, while UIS is in ninth, ahead of the league's Point Rating System (PRS) announcement on February 1.
Friday, Jan. 31
12:00 p.m. - Softball vs. Cedarville (Music City Classic)
The UIS softball team opens the season at the Music City Classic in Smyrna, Tenn., hosted by Trevecca Nazarene. Both UIS and Cedarville will be starting their seasons with this matchup. The Prairie Stars lead the all-time series 6-0, having defeated the Yellow Jackets in three games just last season. The two teams will meet again in two weeks.
2:00 p.m. - Softball vs. Ohio Dominican (Music City Classic)
The Prairie Stars take on Ohio Dominican in their second game of the day at the Music City Classic. Ohio Dominican will play McKendree before facing UIS. ODU leads the all-time series 3-2, and the teams split four games in the 2022 season when they last met.
Saturday, Feb. 1
10:00 a.m. - Women's Tennis vs. Washburn (HOME)
The Prairie Stars welcome Washburn to the Springfield Racquet and Fitness Center for their regular season opener. UIS has already played two exhibitions and a scrimmage this winter as preparation. This match marks the first of eight regular-season non-conference matches before GLVC play begins after spring break. UIS posted a 6-8 record last season and returns a large portion of its roster.
10:00 a.m. - Men's Tennis vs. Washburn (HOME)
Men's tennis hosts Washburn for their regular season opener, ready for official competition following a scrimmage with Southwestern Illinois last weekend. This is the first of nine regular-season non-conference matches for the team this season. The roster features three newcomers, and the Prairie Stars boasted a 10-6 record last year.
10:30 a.m. - Softball vs. Trevecca Nazarene (Music City Classic)
The Prairie Stars face off with the No. 17-ranked host school, Trevecca Nazarene, at the Music City Classic. Trevecca opens its season with games against GLVC opponents Missouri-St. Louis and McKendree on Friday before meeting UIS. TNU leads the all-time series 2-0, having won once in 2019 and once in 2023.
12:30 p.m. - Softball vs. Ashland (Music City Classic)
UIS will take on the Ashland Eagles, an opponent with which they have more history. The Prairie Stars have won five of eight matchups against Ashland since 2013, splitting a set of games in 2024. Ashland will play Indianapolis, Missouri-St. Louis, and McKendree at the tournament before facing UIS.
1:00 p.m. - Women's Basketball at Lincoln
UIS is set to play the Lincoln Blue Tigers (1-15, 0-10 GLVC) in Jefferson City, Mo., on Saturday afternoon. Lincoln is new to the conference this year but has faced UIS five times between 2010 and 2021, with UIS winning the last two matchups at home in 2015 and 2021. Lincoln's game against Maryville, scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed, with a rescheduled date to be determined. Lincoln will play Indianapolis on Thursday night before hosting UIS. As of the start of the week, Indianapolis is 13th in the conference standings, while Lincoln sits 15th.
3:00 p.m. - Men's Basketball vs. Lincoln
UIS will take on Lincoln (13-5, 5-5 GLVC) in Jefferson City, Mo., on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Tigers are new to the GLVC this year but have faced UIS before, with the Prairie Stars winning three of four matchups between 2010 and 2014. Lincoln fell 79-75 to Truman State in overtime on Monday before defeating McKendree 73-68 on Thursday. Lincoln's game against Maryville, scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed, with a make-up date to be determined. Lincoln will also play Indianapolis on Thursday night before hosting UIS. At the start of the week, Lincoln is sixth in the league standings, while Indianapolis is eighth.
