UIS Information Technology Services IT Technical Associate Zach Logsdon has been named the 2023 Employee of the Year at the University of Illinois Springfield. He was honored during a reception on Jan. 25, 2024, in the UIS Student Union.

Before announcing the winner, UIS Chancellor Janet Gooch thanked the eleven Employees of the Month who were nominated for the award.

Logsdon, who was the December 2023 Employee of the Month, played an integral role in the launch of the new UIS Esports Arena.

“Not only has he been involved in the planning of the space, but he also volunteered to build the gaming computers by hand in order to save thousands of dollars and keep the project under budget,” said Kara McElwrath, his supervisor.

According to McElwrath, this is not unusual behavior for Logsdon.

“He goes above and beyond to make sure that user needs are met and offers not just a solution to the problem at hand but also alternatives to provide flexibility,” McElwrath said.

Logsdon’s co-workers describe him as patient, dependable and full of drive, adding that he sets the standard for making positive impressions with both students and colleagues.

“Zach has again and again put students first with this project and there’s no way we’d be where we are today without him,” said his nominator.

“I wouldn’t want to do my job without Zach,” McElwrath said. “Our ITS team would not be as strong without him.”
