Launch your nursing career at UIS.
Your pathway to a bachelor of science in nursing begins with UIS Pre-Nursing. Your first two years of general education and nursing prerequisite courses are provided by highly-skilled UIS faculty, with a seamless transition to UIC Nursing Springfield, also on the UIS campus, for years three and four.
U.S. News & World Report has ranked UIS the No. 1 regional public university in Illinois each year since 2020 and No. 6 in the Midwest. These prestigious rankings reflect the strength of the student body as well as a high-quality, teaching-focused academic experience. Class sizes are small and students benefit from the personal interaction with professors, setting you up for success in a high-level professional nursing program.
Start your BSN journey
The bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) program can be completed in four years of full-time study and involves two phases: two years of UIS Pre-Nursing and general education courses and two years of UIC Nursing Springfield professional nursing courses (sample schedule). Students remain in Springfield on the UIS campus for all four years of coursework and get hands-on experience with Memorial Health, a regional healthcare system and major employer of nurses in central Illinois.
