I am a cultural anthropologist with specialization in medical anthropology. My current classes include Culture, Health, and Power; Understanding Cultures; Brazil in Movies; and Teen Talk Classic. These classes reflect my research interests in race, gender, childhood and youth, and foster care. Some of my work is international, and some focuses on Brazil or the US. I speak Portuguese, Spanish, and German. I am finishing a book on representations of the Brazilian mulata (women of both African and European heritage) entitled Brazilian Girls Take on Their World and conducting a research project on race and foster care in Central Illinois funded by Call to Action to Address Racism and Social Justice.
