Harmonize Discussions includes an AI-assisted rubric feature that can help instructors create grading criteria based on their discussion instructions. Instructors can generate focus areas, develop a full rubric with performance ratings, customize the generated content, and sync the rubric with a Canvas assignment.
Create an AI-Generated Rubric in Harmonize
1. In Canvas, open the Harmonize discussion assignment and select Edit.

2. If Authorize Canvas Extensions appears at the top of the Topic Settings page, select it and follow the prompts to enable syncing between Harmonize and Canvas.
3. Add your discussion instructions in the Instructions section. These instructions will be used to help generate the rubric.

4. Scroll to the bottom of the instructions and select Generate Focus Areas.

5. Harmonize uses the discussion instructions to generate four Focus Areas. Review the generated Focus Areas and edit, remove, or add areas as needed. When finished, select Next.

6. Select Use Focus Areas Only to use the generated areas as a guide, or select Generate Full Rubric to create a complete grading rubric.

7. Select Generate Full Rubric. Harmonize will create four performance ratings for each Focus Area.

8. Review the generated rubric and make any needed adjustments. You can edit rating labels, descriptions, and points, or regenerate rating content.
9. When you are satisfied with the rubric, select Save Rubric.
10. Review the topic settings, then select Publish. The Focus Areas and full rubric will be available to students and synced with the Canvas assignment.
11. When grading in SpeedGrader, select View Rubric to expand the rubric and use it to grade student submissions.
