Through their giving, Herbert and Elizabeth Denniss have demonstrated a deep commitment to education. Herbert is a retired Springfield police officer, and Elizabeth Denniss, one of Springfield's first nurse practitioners, has multiple nursing degrees. One of these, her BSN in nursing, she earned at UIS (then Sangamon State), back when the University first offered a nursing degree. Herb and Elizabeth Denniss are pleased to support nursing at UIS, now that the University has a path toward a nursing degree. Their scholarship will support a first- or second-year UIS student preparing to enter the Springfield-based University of Illinois Chicago nursing degree.
