Throughout their many years in Springfield, Dr. and Mrs. Berman have been committed to academic endeavors. During his years at UIS, Dr. Harry J. Berman served as a gerontology professor, as Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Provost and Interim Chancellor. Deborah M. Berman served during this time in a variety of central administrative positions at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield. Through this fund, the Bermans continue their commitment to academic and faculty excellence. The Bermans intend the Sabbatical Fund to help faculty on their first sabbatical, who can use the funds for travel, lodging, airfare, equipment, software, conference registration fees, and other non-salary items that will help the faculty faculty meet the objectives of the sabbatical.
