UIS Professor Richard Gilman-Opalsky releases new book “Imaginary Power, Real Horizons”
Richard Gilman-Opalsky, a professor at the University of Illinois Springfield School of Politics and International Affairs, has released a new book titled “Imaginary Power, Real Horizons: The Practicality of Utopianism.” The book, available for preorder now, will be released on July 9.
Practical Politics Graduate Certificate
The Graduate Certificate in Practical Politics at the University of Illinois Springfield is designed for individuals already in politics or aiming to enter the field. It enriches students' knowledge and skills through political science principles, focusing on electoral politics, interest group politics, lobbying, and policy analysis. This program emphasizes hands-on learning, offering internships with government bodies and related entities to apply classroom theories in real-world political settings.

UIS professor’s book honored with the International Studies Association’s 2022 Foreign Policy Analysis Best Book Award
University of Illinois Springfield Associate Professor Sibel Oktay’s book, “Governing Abroad: Coalition Politics and Foreign Policy in Europe,” has been awarded the International Studies Association’s 2022 Foreign Policy Analysis Best Book Award. Oktay teaches in the UIS School of Politics and International Affairs.
Former U.S. Ambassador Charles Ray to speak at UIS
WHAT: The University of Illinois Springfield will host former U.S. Ambassador Charles Ray who will speak about a new report, “Blueprints for a More Modern U.S. Diplomatic Service.” The report includes recommendations on ways the United States can improve its diplomacy. The program is sponsored by the UIS School of Politics and International Affairs and the World Affairs Council of Central Illinois. The event is open to the public.

UIS political science professor receives the LGBTQ+ Politics Best Book Award
University of Illinois Springfield Political Science Professor Jason Pierceson’s book, “Before Bostock: The Accidental LGBTQ Precedent of Price Waterhouse v. Hopkins,” is the co-recipient of the inaugural LGBTQ+ Politics Best Book Award from the Sexuality and Politics Section of the American Political Science Association (APSA).
According to APSA, the LGBTQ+ Politics Best Book Award is given annually to a book published in the preceding calendar year that addresses LGBTQ+ politics.
