Writing Standards

The UIS Campus Relations department oversees writing standards for the campus.

Style Guide

The guidelines contained in the UIS Writing Style Guide are based on the Associated Press Stylebook, though some departures have been made that are specific to UIS.

The guide is by no means exhaustive; it’s meant only to address some of the most common questions that writers on this campus may have.

Naming Standards

University Name

The name of the university is University of Illinois Springfield.

By decision of the Chancellor’s Cabinet, we dropped the use of the word “at” and are now known as University of Illinois Springfield – or simply Illinois Springfield.

Photography

UIS Photography covers university events and assists UIS campus units by making beautiful images to elevate marketing materials.

There is no fee for UIS campus departments but requests are approved based on the intended use of the images, photographer schedule availability and other factors. All images created by Marketing are owned by the university.

Please review the Photo Video Coverage page before submitting the photo request form.
