Retention of Illinois Students & Equity (RISE) Act
The RISE (Retaining Illinois Students and Equity) Act allows certain eligible State of Illinois residents who are not eligible to complete a FAFSA an avenue to apply for state and institutional financial aid . The Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid is available through the Illinois Student Assistance Commission.
Student’s Rights and Responsibilities
You have the right to
- Be advised of what financial aid programs are available and how to apply for them.
- Be advised of requirements in the case of withdrawal, refunds and repayment of financial aid.
- Have all application information treated with the highest professional confidentiality.
- Be advised of the procedures and deadlines for submitting application(s) for financial aid.
- Be advised of the selection criteria for financial aid recipients.
- Be advised of how and when financial aid funds are disbursed.

Check Your Status
Financial Aid Offer Notification
New and returning students applying for financial aid will receive their financial aid offer notifications electronically. You will be notified that your offer is ready to be viewed via an e-mail notification. Furthermore, you should be checking your official UIS email account regularly, at least once a week, for updates on your financial aid status and other important financial aid notifications or billing notices. You will then be able to access your Financial Aid Offer Notification.

Financial Aid Offer Notifications must list anticipated expenses students may encounter during the academic year. The total COA is an estimate, not the actual price you will pay, and actual costs will vary.
Total financial aid offered may not exceed the estimated Cost of Attendance.
