Presented by the UIS Alumni SAGE Society
It was a fun experience! I got to meet so many people and had a lot of great opportunities. I played on the soccer team but was also able to participate in Alternative Spring Break and a study abroad program in Italy.
I liked participating in Springfest with my friends and teammates! It was fun to get together each year with the entire campus and take part in the activities.
Right off the bat I was participating in the UIS Orchestra Program, Psychology Club, Camerata Program, and the Honors Program. As the months went by I started to establish who I was as a musician, student, mentor, leader, and friend. I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to work closely with my professors and help develop the Camerata music program from a simple ensemble group to a close-knit team of friends and collaborators.

UIS Degree: B.A. (Business Administration)
Current Position: Marketing Consultant at ABC NewsChannel 20-Fox Illinois
I graduated with a degree in Business Administration and took Advertising as an elective. It was one of my favorite classes, so I knew I wanted to work in that field somehow.
I am the Senior Director for Public Policy and Advocacy at Planned Parenthood of Illinois and Planned Parenthood Illinois Action.
What is your fondest memory of UIS?
I met my husband, Neil Calderon, at UIS and we started dating.
How has your UIS education prepared you for your current career?
It is always great to reconnect with our alumni. Recently, I had an opportunity to catch up with David Watson, one of our math majors who graduated in 2017.
The University of Illinois Springfield Visual Arts Gallery is pleased to present “Gemstones,” a group exhibition that features an accomplished roster of local, regional and national artists that have also served as donors to the gallery. The exhibition will open with a free public reception from 5:30-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, and will run through Thursday, July 27.
Doug Hamilton, head of artificial intelligence (AI) research at Nasdaq and a University of Illinois Springfield alum, spoke about the current state of artificial intelligence and ethical considerations during two appearances April 12-13, 2023, on campus.
Hamilton earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from UIS in 2012. He then attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where he earned his master’s in engineering and management.
