Happy Graduation (in September!)

Springfield’s class of 2020 was honored Saturday afternoon in two separate commencement exercises, deferred because of the pandemic.

UIS Chancellor Emerita, Susan Koch, conferred diploma covers to approximately 150 graduates. COVID protocols were in place for both ceremonies held at the UIS Sangamon Auditorium.

UIS to honor the Class of 2020 during two special commencement ceremonies

The University of Illinois Springfield will honor the Class of 2020 during two special commencement ceremonies on Saturday afternoon.

Officials said this will be an opportunity for 2020 graduates to walk across the stage in their cap and gown and have their names read in front of up to eight guests. The ceremonies will be held at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the UIS Sangamon Auditorium, which is inside the Public Affairs Center Building on Ernest Hemingway Drive.

UIS releases complete list of 2021 graduates

A total of 1,030 students earned degrees from the University of Illinois Springfield at the conclusion of the spring semester on May 15, 2021, pending completion of university requirements.

UIS holds 50th Commencement in a hybrid format due to COVID-19 pandemic

The University of Illinois Springfield held 50th Commencement activities May 13-15, 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, graduates were given a chance to participate in an optional in-person “stage experience" on the stage of Sangamon Auditorium May 13 & 14. In addition, UIS released a virtual commencement celebration video honoring the Class of 2021 on Saturday, May 15 on the UIS website and Facebook page.

Hundreds of students graduate during the 47th annual UIS commencement ceremonies in downtown Springfield

The University of Illinois Springfield held two commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at the Bank of Springfield Center in downtown Springfield. Out of the 1,520 UIS students who were eligible to graduate, 978 participated in the ceremonies.

UIS Chancellor Susan J. Koch presided over the ceremonies, welcoming thousands of guests. She offered the graduates some advice and reflected on the importance of earning a college degree from a University of Illinois campus.
