Redshirt freshman Makenna Cox has been named the Jimmy John's Athlete of the Month at UIS for September 2024. She ranks second in the GLVC for points and kills, seventh in NCAA DII for total kills, and 13th for points per set. 



Cox's 211 kills in 48 sets have helped propel the UIS volleyball team to a 9-4 start. Defensively, she's added 167 digs, recording double-digit digs in her last six matches.

Cox is a Springfield, Ill. native who attended Springfield Lutheran High School. She transferred to UIS this fall from Missouri Western State.

Jimmy John's Athlete of the Month honorees from the 2024-25 year will be recognized at the annual Night of Stars banquet at the end of the spring semester. All honorees will also be considered for UIS Male Athlete of the Year and UIS Female Athlete of the Year awards at the conclusion of the current year of competition.
