The UIS women's cross country team is ready to host the 2024 GLVC Cross Country Championships on their home course for the first time ever this Saturday, Oct. 26.

The Prairie Stars started the season strong by winning the Hy-Vee Prairie Stars Invitational on their home course. They followed that with a 13th-place finish at the John McNichols Invitational, competing against a strong field of teams outside of their division. Most recently, the team finished 24th out of 26 teams at the Lewis Crossover, one of the largest meets in the Midwest, as they faced a competitive field late in the season.

UIS finished fifth in a strong showing at the championship in 2023 — their best result since a fourth-place finish in 2020. The Prairie Stars will look to build on that performance and make a push for the podium this weekend.

Madelyn Miller has been the team's top runner in three regular-season meets this year and secured All-GLVC honors last season by placing 11th at the championship as a sophomore. She is supported by experienced fifth-year teammates Jade Aubrey and Jordan Serrahn, as well as senior Lillian Buzani. A strong blend of newcomers and returners round out the team, keeping the five-runner spread around 90 seconds to compete well in large races.

The 6k race will take place on the UIS Cross Country Course, which winds through the scenic Spencer House property and loops around soccer fields near University Drive. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the Prairie Stars as they host their 14 league opponents at their home course.
