The Illinois Springfield men's and women's tennis teams are gearing up for an exciting 2025 spring season with challenging schedules designed to prepare the Prairie Stars for postseason success. Both teams will face tough nonconference opponents and key GLVC matchups as they aim to secure spots in their respective GLVC tournaments, which will be held at the Velasco Tennis Center in Springfield in May.
Women's Tennis
The UIS women's tennis team opens its season with an exhibition match against SIUE in Edwardsville on Jan. 18. The team will return home to scrimmage against Southwestern Illinois at the Springfield Racquet and Fitness Center on Jan. 25, followed by a trip to Normal, Ill., to face Illinois State on Jan. 26.
Non-conference highlights include matches against Washburn on Feb. 1 and Michigan Tech on Feb. 15, both in Springfield. The Prairie Stars also face Southwest Baptist, Tiffin, and Hillsdale in late February before traveling to King University on March 8 and Purdue Northwest on March 14.
UIS will host Drury in a non-conference matchup on March 22, as the Panthers are in the league's West Division. GLVC play kicks off when UIS heads to St. Louis for matchups with Missouri-St. Louis on April 11 and Maryville on April 12. The Prairie Stars close the regular season at home with matches against Lewis on April 19, Indianapolis on April 25, and McKendree on April 26.
Men's Tennis
The UIS men's tennis team begins its season with a scrimmage against Southwestern Illinois at the Springfield Racquet and Fitness Center on Jan. 25. The regular season gets underway on Feb. 1, when the Prairie Stars host Washburn in Springfield. Key non-conference opponents include Michigan Tech on Feb. 15 and Tiffin on Feb. 22. The team travels for away matches at King University and Purdue Northwest before returning home to host Drury on March 22 in their final non-conference match.
GLVC play begins with away matches against Missouri-St. Louis on April 11 and Maryville on April 12. UIS concludes the regular season at home at Washington Park, facing Lewis on April 19, Indianapolis on April 25, and McKendree on April 26.
GLVC Tournament
Illinois Springfield will host the 2025 GLVC Men's and Women's Tennis Championships from May 2-4 at the newly renovated Velasco Tennis Center in Washington Park. The event, a collaboration between the UIS Athletic Department, the Springfield Park District, and Visit Springfield, will draw top collegiate talent and fans from across the region.
Ross Graham, head coach of UIS tennis, expressed his enthusiasm: "UIS is extremely excited for the opportunity to host the GLVC Men's and Women's Tennis Championships this spring at Washington Park! We couldn't be more thankful for the opportunity to host, and we look forward to tremendous community support the first weekend in May for such a special event."
NCAA Postseason
Teams earning bids will compete in Regional matches at campus sites on May 9-10. The NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Tennis Championships are scheduled for May 20-24 in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
