The UIS softball team wrapped up the Alvy Early Memorial Classic with a split on Saturday, moving its overall record to 4-4. UIS fell 13-0 to Washburn before bouncing back with a 4-0 shutout victory over Missouri Southern.
Game One vs. Washburn | L, 13-0
- The game opened with five quick innings, as Washburn's starter racked up seven strikeouts while Rosie Bartletti kept UIS in it with three of her own.
- The Ichabods broke through in the sixth, scoring six runs after an error set the stage for five straight singles and a double. Adi Girard entered in relief, allowing one more run on a groundout before escaping the inning with another ground ball. UIS bats remained quiet in the bottom half.
- Washburn sealed the game with a seven-hit, seven-run seventh inning, capitalizing on another UIS error to extend its lead to 13-0. The Prairie Stars went down in order in the final frame, finishing the game with five hits while committing three errors. Washburn outhit UIS 14-5 in the shutout loss.
Game Two vs. Missouri Southern | W, 4-0
- UIS took an early lead in the second inning when Rosie Bartletti singled, advanced on an error, and eventually scored on a groundout to put the Prairie Stars ahead 1-0.
- McClure kept the Lions off balance throughout the early innings, working efficiently to maintain the lead. The Prairie Stars then broke the game open in the fifth, adding three runs on three hits and an error to extend their advantage to 4-0.
- McClure continued to dominate, holding Missouri Southern scoreless to seal the win. She improved to 3-1 on the season, giving up just four walks while keeping the Lions from mounting any real scoring threats.
- Bartletti led the UIS offense, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Jacy Watts contributed with a key hit, finishing 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

UIS travels to Xenia, Ohio, next weekend for a three-game series against Cedarville. The Prairie Stars opened the season with a 6-2 victory over the Yellow Jackets.
