The Illinois Springfield men's basketball team suffered an 80-62 loss to Upper Iowa on Thursday night in Fayette, Iowa. With the defeat, the Prairie Stars fall to 12-13 overall and 7-10 in GLVC play, while the Peacocks improve to 18-8 overall and 12-6 in the conference.

  • The game started with a flurry of three-pointers, as Max Kunnert and Noah King traded shots from beyond the arc, keeping the contest tight early on.
  • UIS shot a perfect 100% early, tying the game at 12-12, with Kunnert contributing eight of the first 12 points.
  • The Prairie Stars committed 10 turnovers in the first half, while Upper Iowa limited theirs to three. This turnover discrepancy allowed the Peacocks to take control, and they eventually opened up a 10-point lead with 3:09 remaining in the first half.
  • Noah King's six-point run helped Upper Iowa stretch the lead to 45-30 at the break.
  • In the second half, UIS had trouble managing the ball early, but improved on the boards.
  • As the second half wore on, Upper Iowa's inside game became more dominant. On the other end, they defended the perimeter effectively.
  • Despite a strong rebounding effort from UIS, the Peacocks' defensive pressure prevented them from capitalizing on those possessions, as Upper Iowa kept its momentum up and finished the game with an 80-62 victory.
  • Max Kunnert led the Prairie Stars with 17 points, shooting 6 of 11 from the field and 3 of 6 from beyond the arc. Tye Banks added 10 points and 2 assists, while Khalil Ross contributed 7 points and 6 rebounds. Nate Shockey also had a solid performance with 8 points and 5 rebounds off the bench.
  • UIS shot 39.7% from the field (23-58), 23.1% from beyond the arc (3-13), and 72.2% from the free-throw line (13-18).
