History of UIS Peoria

UIS Peoria began in 1975 as Sangamon State University – Upper Division – Peoria Campus. When Sangamon State University became the University of Illinois Springfield in 1995, SSU Peoria became the UIS Peoria Center then was rebranded to UIS Peoria in 2019.

The purpose of the programs offered at UIS Peoria has expanded from the two original B.A. programs in Management and Social Justice to additional professional programs all offered to allow students to continue their professional growth and skill improvement without interruption of their family obligations or employment. New programs such as Teachers Education (added in the 2021-2022 academic year) only expand our reach to serve more students in the Peoria area.
