The UIS Field Station at Lake Springfield is a multi-use facility providing the UIS community with opportunities for education, research, and recreation on the Lake.
Located within walking distance of campus, the UIS Field Station at Lake Springfield, provides exciting opportunities for hands-on, field based learning, as well as opportunities for research. For those needing a break, a range of recreation activities are also supported by the Field Station. Additionally, the lake side setting provides an inspiring get-away for those looking to think, write, read, or create.
The first phase of renovations are complete, and the building has already hosted a variety of events. Check out the architects renderings for an idea of how further renovations might proceed.
Hands-on Experience
While the Field Station provides hands-on experiences for students in the fields of Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Studies, it also provides opportunities for students in the Humanities and Social Sciences, with the Lake providing inspiration for a variety of potential projects.
In addition to academic pursuits, the Field Station provides a setting for a great number of recreational pursuits. Campus Recreation expects to be able to expand on its water related offerings for students, potentially including: canoeing, kayaking, sailing, boating, fishing, and fitness classes.
