These highly competitive fellowships help fund your graduate studies (article from US News and World Report). Students typically apply in the Spring of their Junior Year or Fall of their Senior Year. These are also open to Alumni.
Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program (rising seniors)
Applications released mid-January for the Summer 2017; and January 13, 2017 for Fall semester and full Academic Year programs
Student deadlines: March 7, 2016 for Summer 2017; and March 1, 2016 for Fall semester and full Academic Year Programs
The Boren Fellowship funds long term overseas research in underrepresented languages. There are special programs in strategic languages, such as African, Indonesian, and Southeast Asian, Hindi, Urdu (pdf). Students must be U.S. citizens and enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited university to apply. Fellowships up to $24,000 will be offered. Application deadlines are in January.
Critical Language Scholarship (Summer program)
This scholarship provides an 8-10 week overseas experience studying one of 14 critical languages. Sophomore or higher students must be a U.S. citizen and enrolled at a US university (all levels, including graduate) during the program. This program covers all costs of overseas visit, excepting passport and medical exam fees.

Cultural exchange funded by US State Department. One year post-graduate fellowship for research, study, or teaching English abroad. Includes creative arts.

The Gates-Cambridge scholarship funds tuition for any non-United Kingdom citizen to study full time for a graduate degrees at the University of Cambridge. A stipend may be included based on situation. Application deadlines are in October
This program provides fellowships to students of superior academic ability—selected on the basis of demonstrated achievement, financial need, and exceptional promise—to undertake study at the doctoral and Master of Fine Arts level in selected fields of arts, humanities, and social sciences.
DAAD focuses on funding for U.S./Canadian citizens to study in Germany. Open to many disciplines this scholarship provides a monthly stipend of 750 euros to graduate students and 1000 euros to Post-docs. Deadlines vary because there are multiple scholarships.
Future American History teachers (grades 7-12) can win up to $24,000 in tuition, fees, book, and housing aid. Eligible students are U.S. citizens, graduating the year they apply, and must teach one year for every year they receive awards for. The application deadline is in March.
Funds one-two years of graduate studies in the UK. Students must have B.A. / B.S. by April.

Mitchell Scholarship (graduates / alumni under 30 years of age)
Funds one year of graduate studies in Ireland. Students must have B.A. / B.S. by May and be less than 30 years old.

Samuel Huntington Public Service Award: Provides a $10,000 stipend for a graduating college senior to pursue
one year of public service anywhere in the world. The award allows recipients to engage in a meaningful public
service activity for one year before proceeding on to graduate school or a career.
This Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fellowship is for U.S. citizens who have been accepted to a graduate degree program at an accredited U.S. university with a focus on research. This program includes a tuition grant of $12,000 and a stipend of $34,000 for up to 3 years. Application deadlines vary, but are typically in October.
Rangel International Affairs Graduate Fellowship
The Rangel Fellowship seeks to prepare students for careers in Foreign Service. The fellowship supports an annual total amount of $37,500 for up to two years. Eligible students are U.S. citizens from historically underrepresented populations (minority, women, financial need) with a GPA of 3.2 or higher and willing to commit to 5 years in the State Department’s Foreign Service after graduation. Application deadlines are in September.
The Rhodes Scholarship is a full ride scholarship to study at Oxford University for two years, and includes a stipend. Eligible students are U.S. citizens under 24 years of age who have completed a bachelor’s degree. It is open to all disciplines. Application deadline is in October.
The Truman Scholarship funds the graduate degrees of outstanding students focused on public service, in exchange for work in the public sector for at least 3 years. Eligible students are U.S. citizens or nationals, have community service experience, and have junior/senior standing. Maximum award is $30,000. Application deadline is in February of Junior Year.
Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowship
The Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowship recruits current college seniors, recent grads, and alumni with backgrounds in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) to teach in high-need schools. Fellows receive generous financial support to complete a master’s degree program in education that includes an intensive clinical placement in a local high-need school, as well as mentoring throughout their three-year teaching commitment. Application deadlines are October, November, and January (includes application to grad school).
