Play Description
The spring production, As Bees In Honey Drown by Douglas Carter Beane, will be directed by UIS Director of Theatre, Eric Thibodeaux-Thompson. A dark comic mystery set in Manhattan, As Bees In Honey Drown follows the trail of socialite Alexa Vere de Vere, a black-clad woman of mystery who’s made the world of celebrity her home, and Evan Wyler, the young New York writer savoring the success of his debut novel. His book has induced Alexa to lure him to write her life story for a possible film, and Evan gets caught up in the whirlwind of fame and “instant success.” What he discovers are startling revelations that lead us into the intoxicating NYC world of the play. As Bees In Honey Drown was the runaway hit of the 1997 Off-Broadway Season, with the New York Times lauding it “a delicious souffle of a satire…[an] extremely entertaining fable for an age that always chooses image over substance.” Production dates are: March 2, 3, 8, 9, 10 at 8pm, and March 4 at 2pm.
