We are delighted to congratulate the exceptional winners of the STARS (Student Technology, Arts, & Research Symposium) event, where students showcased their research and creative activities. Business category. Prashanth Ravella, Abhishek Nemani, & Trushna Bharwad for their excellent oral presentation on “Early Prediction of Diabetes: Analysis using Machine Learning Algorithms”. Faculty mentor: Dr. Neetu Singh.

Humanities category. Alaynna Alderman for her excellent oral presentation on "Children's Literature and Dual Audience". Faculty mentor: Dr. Livia Arndal Woods.

Humanities category. Helena Soares for her excellent oral presentation on “Evaluating ChatGPT’s Capabilities in Form-Based Poetry Generation”. Faculty mentor: Dr. Hei-Chi Chan.

Natural Sciences category. Kelsie Burrows for her excellent oral presentation on “Does Handedness Play a Role in the Rate of Perceived Exertion and Heart Rate Response in College Ages Students?”. Faculty mentor: Dr. Angela Doehring.

Social Sciences category. Elijah Eshun for his excellent oral presentation on “Disaster risk reduction Through Public Private Partnerships: A qualitative Study of Emergency Management Agencies in Illinois”. Faculty mentor: Dr. Suyang Yu.

Technology category. Rabbiat AlHassan for her excellent oral presentation on "Quantum Finance". Faculty Mentor: Dr. Te-Wei Wang.

Visual Arts category. Maxine Touchette for her remarkable artwork titled "Solastalgia". Faculty mentor: Dr. Mike Miller.

Visual Arts category. Savannah Saltsgaver for her remarkable artwork titled "The Brightest Star (The Sun) and Driving Around in a Battery Powered Pink Jeep." Faculty mentor: Dr. Mike Miller.

Visual Arts category. Sophia Britt for her remarkable artwork titled "Conservation Sculpture". Faculty mentor: Dr. Shane Harris.

These remarkable students have not only showcased their dedication to research and creative activities but also have inspired their peers to strive for excellence. We extend our appreciation to all the faculty mentors for their remarkable commitment to guiding students through this journey.

What is the STARS Symposium?

UIS has a tradition of celebrating our students’ talents. Each year, we invite our graduate and undergraduate students from all academic disciplines to showcase their scholarly and creative works at the symposium. At STARS, students experience an opportunity to professionally present their work, interact with other scholars, and engage with UIS and surrounding community members and invited speakers.

• Student researchers, under the guidance of faculty, will present at STARS in conference style format on a variety of topics related to business, the humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, and technology.
• Students of visual arts will display and discuss their projects in the STARS Art Gallery.
• Student musicians will offer live concert performances in Brookens Auditorium and in open STARS gathering spaces.
