SPRINGFIELD, IL (May 4, 2022) - The UIS Speech and Debate Team had a record 2021-2022 season. This academic year saw the team reach its largest size in a decade with 11 students becoming part of the organization. The team also competed virtually in half a dozen competitions throughout the season.

Members of the team also received excellent comments and strong scores for their speeches this season. In particular, novice team member Meghan Vlcek won extemporaneous speaking at the Last Chance at Illinois State tournament in March.

"I'm very proud of the how the team has grown this year" says Director Timothy Bill. "Team members are building the skills needed to have an incredible 2022-2023 season."

Director Bill also noted that many tournament hosts are considering offering their competitions in person next season. "We will have to see how the pandemic continues to evolve, but as of right now, it looks like we will be able to resume traveling to competitions next year. I am incredibly excited for the opportunity to get back to in person tournaments."

The UIS Speech and Debate Team is open to undergraduate students of any major on campus. If you are interested in learning more about the team or finding out how to get involved, please email Director Bill via the address listed below.
