Hi all! I am Rob, The Academic Skills TA for The Learning Hub. I am an international Grad student from the UK. Here at UIS I am pursuing my graduate degree in Human Development Counselling, having an undergraduate degree in Social Sciences and a background in Counselling Skills. Although I completed my undergraduate degree in the UK, I have spent a lot of time here in the US, specifically in Illinois. Outside of School, I am a father, a stepdad and value time with the family. I also spend my downtime either gaming, reading or binge-watching TV shows.

Hello! My name is Sam, and I am an accounting tutor. I am from Moweaqua, Illinois. Currently, I am majoring in Accounting, and I plan on becoming a Certified Public Accounting once I graduate. Beyond academics, I currently serve on the Student Government Association and Student Organization Funding Association and lead the Model Illinois Government at UIS. I also enjoy cooking, studying history, and hiking. I look forward to getting to work with you!

My name is Joshua and I am a Computer Science tutor for CSC 225 and 275. I am from a small town called New Braunfels, TX and I'm a Computer Science major with a minor in Mathematical Sciences. I have an interest in all things Computer Science such as programming and A.I.  

In addition to my school and my job as tutor I am on the men's soccer team and working a software engineering internship at a startup, so I keep very busy. Aside from work and school I really enjoy listening to music and watching Brooklyn 99.

My name is Spencer, and I am returning this fall for my final semester of graduate school and as a Computer Science Tutor at the Learning Hub.  I am working towards a master’s degree in computer science which I plan to complete this December 2024.  I competed as a Prairie Star in both Cross County and Track & Field as a long-distance runner for four and a half years .  My favorite event was the 5k.  During my undergraduate years, I was also a member of the CAP program.  I currently serve as President of the Catholic Student Organization on campus.  I am happy to serve the UIS community in a variety of ways and it is with a heavy heart that I will complete my studies this fall semester.  I wish every student the best on their journeys through school at UIS.  Go Prairie Stars!

My name is Mitch and I am a math peer tutor. I am from Shorewood, IL and am currently a Mathematical Science major with a minor in Business Analytics. After college, I plan to become an actuary, so I am also studying and taking the actuarial exams.  

In addition to academics, I am on the men's soccer team and would greatly appreciate anyone's support of the team, so please come out and see a game! Apart from soccer, I enjoy traveling, reading, and hiking.

Nicole is the Math Coordinator and SI Coordinator in The Learning Hub. She earned her B.A. in Mathematics and M.A. in Mathematics from Eastern Illinois University. She then spent two years studying and teaching math at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Her primary courses of study were Algebra related. She enjoys helping students learn all levels of mathematics. Nicole is also the faculty partner for the UIS Baseball team.

After completing my undergrad, I plan to attend graduate school to earn my Doctorate, and eventually become a travel PT. I love working out, traveling, listening to music, cooking, and reading. Greetings, I'm Hayden, and I'm a writing tutor at the learning hub. I'm a first-year graduate student in the School of Politics and International Affairs. I also hold a B.A. In philosophy which I attained here at UIS.  

I hope to continue on to a Ph.D program centered around political or social theory in the near future. Whenever I'm not consumed by my studies I enjoy reading, writing, exploring all sorts of music and sound art, making a racket with guitars and other tools/equipment, films, and spending quality time with my cats. I'd be happy to assist with your work in whatever way possible.

Sarah loves her job as the Writing Coordinator for The Learning Hub, which she has held since August of 2012. Previously, she received her Bachelor’s from UIS with an English major and an unofficial minor in Theatre, and then returned to UIS for her graduate studies in English. Her thesis project, entitled “The Face of Disability: Humanizing Effects of Autographics on the Physically and Mentally Impaired” won the UIS Outstanding Master's Thesis Award. She has also contributed chapters to Digitally Mediated Composing and You: A Beginners Guide to Understanding Rhetoric and Writing in an Interconnected World (on "What is Rhetoric" and "Genre"), and Civic Engagement in the College Classroom: A Guide for Community-Based Writing (on "Writing to Reflect: Reflecting on your Experiences with a Nonprofit"). She previously contributed to a comics encyclopedia titled Comics Through Time: A History of Icons, Idols, and Ideas, and UIS' own Alchemist Review. She lives with her husband and cats in Springfield.

Hi! My name is Hannah Stearns and I am one of the Front Desk Coordinators this fall for the Learning Hub. I am currently a senior studying Exercise Science on the Pre-Physical Therapy Track. With that being said, I am hoping to attend Physical Therapy School upon my graduation in May 2025. I am also a member of the Women's Soccer team, and it has been so much fun being involved in that. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my friends and family, baking, and going on long walks on a nice day! I am looking forward to a great school year!
