Greetings, colleagues!
Here are some important updates and announcements from the UIS Office of Human Resources:
Supervisor Training October 28th
Registration is currently open for Supervisor Training on Oct. 28 in the Student Union Ballroom. HR will be working with partners across campus to provide a comprehensive, full day of training that all supervisors are encouraged to attend. For more information, check out the agenda and let us know if you have any questions.
Job Description Collection and Training
As mentioned in our last update, we will be collecting job descriptions for all Academic Professional and Civil Service employees. We have delayed the start of this project to later in October to make some necessary updates in JDXpert. More information will be coming soon.
New Employee Orientation Held Monthly
Did you know that Human Resources holds a new employee orientation for Academic Professional and Civil Service employees on the first Wednesday morning of each month? Please encourage new employees to attend as the orientation covers many useful (and fun!) topics applicable to employment at UIS. If you have an employee who was unable to attend an orientation session, please have them email uishr@uis.edu for information on how to register for the next session. This is an orientation they do not want to miss!
Reference Check Resources
As you may know, a vital component of the hiring process is checking candidate references. The University of Illinois System has developed guidelines for conducting and providing reference checks for Academic Professional and Civil Service employees. If you are involved in the hiring process or if you are asked to provide a reference, you are encouraged to read these guidelines.
Working Outside of Illinois Policy for Staff
The Working Outside of Illinois policy is intended to address the tax, benefit and other impacts of staff working outside the State of Illinois. Please notify Human Resources if you have a staff member working outside of the state so these impacts can be addressed. Also, just a reminder that the State University Civil Service System requires that all applicants for a Civil Service position must establish residency in Illinois within 180 days from their first day of work.
