University of Illinois Springfield students and faculty won several awards at the Society for Advancement of Management (SAM) International Business Conference (IBC) held March 16-18, 2023, in Nashville, Tennessee.

The UIS chapter of SAM was awarded third place in both the SAM National Collegiate Case Study Competition and the SAM National Collegiate Written Case Study Competition, demonstrating their exceptional problem-solving skills and ability to effectively communicate their findings.

In addition to their success in the competitions, two outstanding UIS students were recognized with distinguished medals. Chandra Adhikari received a Silver Distinguished Medal Recognition for Outstanding Student, while Seyi Akerele received a Bronze Distinguished Medal Recognition for Outstanding Student.

The UIS chapter's faculty advisor, Sevilay Onal, assistant professor of management, marketing and operations, was also recognized for her outstanding leadership and guidance. Onal received a Distinguished Medal Recognition for Outstanding Faculty Advisor for her commitment to supporting and empowering her students to achieve their full potential.

“The UIS chapter of SAM is proud of their achievements and credits their success to the dedication and hard work of their members,” Onal said. “They look forward to continuing their efforts to promote excellence in the field of management and to represent the University of Illinois Springfield on a national level.”

Onal calls the UIS chapter's success at the 2023 SAM IBC conference “a testament to their commitment to academic excellence, problem-solving skills and teamwork.”

“The awards received are a true reflection of the chapter's hard work, determination and passion for the field of management,” she said.

Other members of the team include James Aldus, Nyan Lin and Shashank Tripathi.
