6.30.23
Dear Faculty & Staff —
Following President Killeen’s announcement on June 14, this message confirms the 4% merit-based salary program for the 2023-24 academic year. The 4% merit-based salary program is to be distributed at the discretion of the unit head. Each division head will identify the unit head for each area based on operational responsibility.
Distribution of the salary increases should be based on merit-based factors, including the employee’s 2023 performance evaluation. Employees will be deemed ineligible for an increase due to one of the following reasons:
- Employees who began their employment at UIS on or after April 1, 2023
- Employees who are on a notice of non-reappointment that is not related to a reclassification from Academic Professional to Civil Service
- Employees who received an Unacceptable, Needs Improvement or Non-Meritorious as a final ranking on their 2023 annual evaluation
- Employees who have submitted their intent to resign or retire effective Aug. 15, 2023, or earlier
- Student staff
- Temporary positions including Adjunct Faculty, Extra Help and Academic Hourly employees
- Retiree rehires
Additionally, Civil Service employees who started working for UIS before April 1, 2023, but who are still within their probationary employment period will not be eligible for this merit-based salary program until satisfactory completion of the probationary period.
Employees who received a minimum wage compression increase in January 2023 (or are in a position that was eligible to receive an increase in January 2023) and who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements are eligible to receive up to half of the merit-based salary program at the discretion of their supervisor/unit head.
Pay increases for faculty and staff in bargaining units will be determined by negotiations with the bargaining representative and/or applicable contract settlements and are not subject to unilateral adjustments unless authorized or permitted pursuant to the collective bargaining process.
As in past years, units will be provided a salary increase worksheet later this summer. Units should use that worksheet to submit their increase requests. For those who qualify, the merit-based salary program will be effective Aug. 16 for faculty and AP employees and Aug. 20 for open range civil service employees. Please direct any questions to Human Resources at uishr@uis.edu.
Thank you,
Janet
