University of Illinois Center for Lincoln Studies announced multiple significant achievements and upcoming events that will further illuminate the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln.
- New Book Series with University of Illinois Press: The first book in the University of Illinois Press' Center for Lincoln Studies book series has been accepted. Authored by American historian and UIS Professor Michael Burlingame, this scholarly edition of the 1907 classic "Lincoln the Citizen: 1809-1861" promises to deepen our understanding of Abraham Lincoln's journey and legacy.
- Open Access Initiative: University of Illinois Springfield's Center for Lincoln Studies Director Jacob K. Friefeld, in collaboration with the Southern Illinois University Press and Professor Burlingame, has made six edited volumes focusing on different aspects of former President Abraham Lincoln’s life available through the Center for Lincoln Studies website. These resources, curated by Burlingame, offer invaluable insights into Lincoln's life and times and will be accessible to the public starting the week of Feb. 5.
- Art Installation: Starting March 26, UIS will proudly host a Center for Lincoln Studies-sponsored art installation at the Northern Illinois University Art Museum. Curated by UIS Professor Graham Peck, the exhibit "Making our History: Artists Render Lincoln’s Legacies" will showcase various interpretations of Lincoln's enduring impact on American culture by contemporary artists, offering a thought-provoking exploration of his legacy.
