Announcement: Paid Leave for All Workers Act
Effective January 1, 2024, the State of Illinois enacted the Paid Leave for All Workers Act. This new law allows eligible employees to earn up to five (5) days of paid leave each year. More information on the UIS implementation of this law can be found here. Eligible employees can begin using this paid leave effective March 31, 2024. Human Resources will be holding an information session for employees regarding the implementation of this new leave March 28th from 10:00-11:30am via Microsoft Teams. This session is open to all employees but is highly recommended for those with timekeeping responsibilities.

We are excited to announce the next installment of the monthly Employee Development Series: Harnessing AI for Workplace Efficiency: A Guide for UIS Employees. This session will be presented by Jessica Baumberger, UIS Director of Web and Digital Strategy. Attendees will delve into the transformative power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and learn how it can be harnessed to significantly enhance efficiency and productivity as an employee. Attendees will learn and explore a variety of AI tools and techniques tailored to streamline daily activities, foster innovative problem-solving, and facilitate a more efficient workflow. From automating mundane tasks to providing sophisticated data analysis, this presentation will cover the spectrum of AI applications that can be integrated into the workplace. Participants will gain insights into practical AI solutions that can be immediately implemented, along with strategies for overcoming common challenges associated with adopting new technologies. Whether you’re a novice in the world of AI or looking to expand your toolkit, this session will equip you with the knowledge and skills to leverage AI in your daily operations at UIS.
Harnessing AI for Workplace Efficiency: A Guide for UIS Employees is open to all faculty and staff and will
be held on March 27th from 9:00-11:00am via Zoom.

Retirement & Recognition Ceremony
The Annual Retirement & Recognition Ceremony will be held on April 11, 2024, and registration for the event is now open! We will celebrate our retirees for their service to UIS, and we will celebrate our colleagues for milestone achievements of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 years of service. Please join us in the celebration.
This event will take place in the Student Union Ballroom from 9:00-10:30am and breakfast will be served.

Take Your Child to Work Day
The Office of Human Resources presents the second annual Take Your Child to Work Day on April 25, 2024! We have a fun-filled day planned that includes a dorm tour, a police demonstration, and a tour of the new E-Sports Arena. We welcome up to 20 kids, aged 11-15 years old, to come and join us for the afternoon.

Annual Evaluations Coming Soon
Annual Evaluation season for Civil Service and Academic Professional employees is just around the corner! The updated online evaluation form will be live starting April 1, 2024, and all evaluations will be due to Human Resources by June 7, 2024. HR will send a campus communication on April 1st with more information and a link to the updated electronic form.
HR will also be holding two training sessions for supervisors that cover best practices for completing annual evaluations. These sessions will be held on April 10th from 9:00-10:30am and April 23rd from 3:00-4:30pm, so please mark your calendars. Stay tuned for more information!
Staffing Update
Welcome New HR Employees
Please give a warm welcome to Alexa Brant, one of the newest members of the HR team! Alexa will be assisting Madison Vangunten with the employment processes for several of the UIS divisions and campus compensation events. Alexa is a UIS alumni with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a certificate in HR Management. Outside of work she is an avid animal lover, is training to run a half marathon, and enjoys reading. HR is excited to have Alexa join the HR staff!
Please help us welcome Ali Kessler to the HR Staff! Ali is slated to become hugely knowledgeable as the Assistant Student Employment Coordinator. She will provide support with all aspects of student employment and is looking forward to cultivating relationships across campus. Ali will also provide personnel support to the Division Liaisons. Outside of UIS Ali is an avid basketball fan and enjoys woodworking. We are beyond excited to have Ali join our team!
