Important Reminder
All Staff Timekeeping Requirements
All faculty and staff are required to account for all leave time from work. Employees who are eligible for accrued benefit leave, Family Medical Leave (FMLA), Paid Leave for All Workers, Funeral/Bereavement Leave, and other forms of leave must record these hours timely and accurately in their respective attendance systems. These systems sync each year with Banner and require you to have your attendance calendar submitted on time for accurate reporting of usage and balances. Employees in units using department time entry should continue to request leave and report time through their documented unit processes. Please reach out to your Division Liaison with any timekeeping questions.

August Session
Employee Development Series
We are excited to announce the next installment of the monthly Employee Development Series - Digital Accessibility: Enhancing Inclusivity and Usability. This session will be presented by Vance Martin, Executive Policy Advisor for Accessibility at the University of Illinois System, and Carey Applegate, UIS Director of the Office of Digital Accessibility. Attendees will learn about the recent updates to Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act and how those new regulations will impact our campus over the next two years (and beyond). Participants will gain insights into practical strategies for designing accessible content, ensuring compliance with accessibility standards, and promoting usability for all users. Whether you’re new to the topic or seeking more advanced insights, this session will equip you with essential skills to enhance digital access in your day-to-day work at UIS.
Digital Accessibility: Enhancing Inclusivity and Usability is open to all faculty and staff and will be held on August 28th from 9-10:30 a.m. via Zoom. Registration is not required.
Important Update
Access & Equity Office Policy Changes
This summer, Access & Equity has been working hard to update our Sexual Misconduct and Nondiscrimination Policies. Effective August 1st, these policies are being replaced by one centralized policy, the UIS Policy Prohibiting Discrimination, Including Harassment and Sex-Based Misconduct.
In addition to bringing UIS into compliance with the new Title IX regulations, this policy enhances accessibility to important information about your rights, options, and responsibilities related to all forms of harassment and discrimination, including sex-based misconduct. If you have not already done so, you are encouraged to thoroughly read the email sent from AEO@uis.edu on August 1, 2024, describing some key policy updates and clarifying reporting responsibilities.
Upcoming Training
Student Employment
Hiring Student Employees for Supervisors and Department Managers - Student Employment, The Career Development Center, and The Office of Engaged Learning will be holding a training session for all administration involved in the hiring of student employees on August 19th from 1:00–2:30 p.m. via Zoom. This session will cover new opportunities for hiring students, tips & tricks for posting in CareerConnect, and all steps necessary to properly hire students.
Use this Zoom link to access the training on August 19th.
Important Reminder
Employment Verifications
As hiring season is in full swing for the university as well as outside entities, we have also seen a large influx of employment verification requests. We encourage all active employees to utilize the Employment Verification System (EVS). This system allows you access to your own employment verification as well as the option to send your vendor a link to access the EVS and retrieve the information you have allowed. Outside of the EVS, all employment verifications should be directed to HR. Supervisors should not be verifying any factual employment details, including Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) forms. If your department receives an electronic request for PSLF certification, please forward it to uishr@uis.edu. However, supervisors are welcome to provide professional references for employees, if requested.
Friendly Reminder
Payroll & Benefits Elections
- Are you contributing to a supplemental retirement and investment plan? If not, now may be a good time to start contributing to one of the plans available to you.
- Verify your State Benefits Elections by reviewing your MyBenefits.Illinois.gov account and your Earnings Statement. Contact University Payroll & Benefits with any questions.
- See the 529 College Savings Plans webpage for information on State of Illinois plans. A 529 plan is a type of savings and investment account in which money grows tax-free as long as the withdrawals are for qualifying educational expenses.
