2025 Development Series: January Session

We are excited to announce the first installment of the 2025 Development Series. You will notice a change in title as this year’s events will be a combination of sessions specific to supervisors as well as general employee sessions. These will be noted in our advertisements as well as in future registration links.

Our first session for 2025 is Meet HR!  There have been many changes to the leadership of the Office of Human Resources as well as general updates we would like to share. Please join us on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, from 9:00-10:00am in the Student Union Ballroom to meet the faces of HR and learn what’s new with our team! Registration is not required for this event.

Drew Schlosser, the new vice chancellor of human resources

Welcome Drew Schlosser!

Please join us in welcoming Drew Schlosser to UIS as the new Assistant Vice Chancellor for Human Resources beginning January 16, 2025. Drew comes to us from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Facilities and Services, where he is an Associate Director for Employee Relations and Human Resources. In his new role, Drew will oversee all HR operations at UIS.

RISE Professional Development Retreat

The Chancellor's Office has planned another Professional Development Retreat for Friday, January 31, 2025, and we encourage everyone to consider attending this event. There will be mirrored morning and afternoon sessions available with a box lunch in between to accommodate all schedules. The retreat will feature workshop sessions led by UIS and community experts and an engaging keynote presentation, “Essential Focus,” by Dr. Ashley Lang, who has nearly 20 years of experience in higher education, leadership, retail and marketing.

This is the third on-campus Rise retreat for civil service, academic professional and faculty employees. If you have not yet participated in these valuable professional development opportunities, now is the time. Registration for this event closes on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, so be sure to register now for an opportunity to connect with your campus colleagues and potentially learn new perspectives and skillsets!

New Employee Orientation Sessions Increasing in 2025

HR has decided to increase the frequency of our New Employee Orientation sessions this year. The orientation sessions are facilitated by Kenzie Westlake, and they will now be held on the first Wednesday of each new biweekly pay period. The first two sessions this year will be held on January 8, 2025, and January 22, 2025. Please keep an eye on the Save the Date section of our newsletter for upcoming dates each month. For any questions regarding when and how to attend, please contact Kenzie at mwest22@uis.edu for more information.

Friendly Reminder: Academic Impressions

As we step into the new year, we want to remind employees about our campus' partnership with Academic Impressions (AI), a workplace resource to help our professional growth and development. You can access your AI account through our website using your UIS email and sign up for training opportunities once you've created your initial account.

Training opportunities include: live and recorded webcasts, live virtual trainings and conferences, on-demand video courses, articles and reports, and the Virtual Writing Cafe.
