Can you tell us a bit about your background and what inspired you to pursue your current career path?

I have a background in military and public service as well as a deep-seated commitment to helping others, which has shaped my career path. Throughout my time in the military and federal government, I have held various federal positions dedicated to supporting military families, Gold Star families, service members, and survivors of military sexual assault. My leadership roles and experience as a military victim advocate have further strengthened my passion for assisting those who have faced trauma and hardship. This desire to serve and uplift others, particularly survivors, continues to drive my career, ensuring I focus on being a servant leader.

Who or what has been your biggest influence or mentor in your journey?

My biggest influence in my journey have been supervisors, clients, fellow advocates, and other public service professionals. Everyone I have met in my career has guided me in what to do, what not to do, validated I was on track, or guided me in another direction. Mentorship is everywhere.

What are your goals and aspirations for the future?

My goals and aspirations are centered around continuing to support and advocate for others. I strive to create meaningful change by improving resources, policies, and support systems for those in need. Leadership and advocacy remain key aspects of my career, and I aim to take on roles that allow me to influence positive change on a broader scale. Ultimately, my aspiration is to ensure that others receive the care, respect, and assistance they deserve while fostering a culture of support and resilience within the greater community.

What advice would you give to others who are looking to advance and make a difference in their field?

My advice to be open to anything that inspires and challenges you to grow as a person and as a leader. While experience is helpful, do not doubt the power of a graduate degree. My masters degree in public administration from UIS has allowed me to learn, network, and prepare myself for various public service leadership roles. I would not be where I am today without my education from UIS.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time that helps you stay inspired and motivated?

In my free time, I enjoy activities that help me recharge while staying connected to my passion for service such as spending time with family, traveling, or reading about current events. Self -care and service is important to me, and I strive to make time for both.
