How to Get Started

Getting started is easy.  Follow these steps and be on your way to a healthier and fitter lifestyle! If you are unsure of which package fits your goals, contact the Campus Recreation office and one of our personal trainers will be happy to assist you.

Step 1: Fill out Personal Training Interest Form

This is a general interest form, nonbinding. With this information, we will match you with one of our trainers.

Step 2: Schedule Initial Assessment

After submitting your Interest Form, your assigned trainer will contact you to schedule your Initial Assessment. At this time, you will complete payment and paperwork, talk more about your goals, and complete a Fitness Assessment.

Step 3: Schedule your training sessions

Following your Initial Assessment, you will work with your trainer to schedule your training sessions.

Personal Training Information

One-on-one assistance in designing and implementing an optimal exercise program tailored to meet fitness goals of the individual. These sessions are designed to motivate, maximize exercise benefits, prevent potential overuse injuries, and to promote lifelong healthy behavior changes.

Free Orientations

Equipment/weight room instruction- 30 minute session FREE

This thirty minute orientation is a FREE service to Rec Members. TRAC personal trainers will educate you on the proper use of the most popular strength, cardio and flexibility equipment TRAC has to offer.

A personal trainer will also review fitness center etiquette to ensure that the fitness area is a friendly and neat environment for all.

FREE Fitness Assessments

Free fitness assessments are held by appointment only; contact the Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness at jkill7@uis.edu to schedule your appointment today!

Body composition – 30 minute session

A fitness assessment technician uses a skin-fold caliper to measure 3 or 7 predetermined anatomical sites. From the measurements obtained, your body composition can be calculated. Body composition is usually expressed as percent body adipose tissue (body fat) to lean body mass percent (muscle).

Complete Fitness Assessment – 1 hour session

A fitness assessment technician will perform multiple assessments including; resting heart rate and resting blood pressure, body composition, cardiovascular endurance (step test), muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility. Once your results are calculated, you will receive a detailed educational report that will be explained to you by your fitness assessment technician.

Your Fitness Assessment includes:

  • Resting Heart Rate

  • Body Fat Percentage
  • Cardiovascular Endurance
  • Muscular Strength
  • Muscular Endurance
  • Flexibility

After completing your Fitness Assessment, you will discuss the results, discuss your goals, and answer any questions you have about nutrition.  Please allow up to ONE hour for testing and discussion.

Fitness Consultation

Consultation – 1 hour session $22

A consultation is available for any individual who is unsure of what they need regarding exercise, fitness, or nutrition. This consultation aids in goal setting and in developing a fundamental understanding of general fitness and nutrition concepts. This session may also be used as a follow up to exercise prescription or to update and make changes to current exercise programs.
