Hometown: Georgetown, Guyana
Major: Political Science Online Master’s Degree
Future Plans: Continue work in Guyana, earn a Ph.D.
Nalinie Singh is earning her master’s degree in political science from the University of Illinois Springfield online from her home country of Guyana. “I chose UIS because the political science program is highly-rated, with distinguished professors who have a wide range of interests. This makes courses more interesting. It is an affordable online degree from a very credible school.” Singh is currently the coordinator of the President’s Youth Advisory Council in Guyana. She serves on Guyana’s National Scholarship Selection Committee, which interviews applicants and decides on scholarships being offered by Guyana or a donor country. She is also a commissioner on Guyana’s Competition and Consumer Commission Board, which hears cases brought forward by consumers and businesses. Singh has volunteered in local government elections and helped with campaigning and election day coordination. She says she most likes the “flexibility” of UIS’ online political science program. At UIS, she is a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Honor Society. Following graduation, Singh plans to continue her current work in Guyana and possibly earn a Ph.D. “I would also like to give back in some capacity in the field of political science here in Guyana, possibly part-time as a lecturer at the University.”
Leadership is lived at UIS. Every day.
