II. Scope
This policy applies to spaces within the library that are available for use by UIS students, staff, and faculty.
III. Definitions
Library Learning Center (BRK 230A): Large classroom on level 2.
IV. Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to define the available spaces and appropriate use of those spaces for teaching, meetings, or special events.
V. Background
This policy should be reviewed every 3 years.
VI. Statement of Policy
Library Learning Center (BRK 230A) - Seats up to 48
The Library Learning Center is primarily used for educational purposes, including information literacy instruction, training or workshops, study tables, and meetings.
Booking:
- The Library Learning Center can be booked by current UIS students, faculty, and staff. Booking requests can be made through the public calendar, are mediated by library staff, and are approved on a first-come first-serve basis.
- The public calendar is unavailable during the first 2 weeks of each semester, as booking for information literacy instruction has precedence during this time.
- Registered Student Organizations wanting to use the space must first submit their event request through the UIS Connection system.
General Use:
- The person who made the reservation is responsible for the condition of the room.
- The room is not completely soundproof. Please be considerate. Voices should be kept at conversational levels.
- Do not leave the room unattended. The library is not responsible for the loss or theft of personal property.
- Food and drinks are permitted, with some restrictions. The user is responsible for cleaning up after themselves.
- Catered events are not permitted without approval from Library Administration.
- Reservations will be cancelled if a group fails to show within the first 45 mins of the start of the reservation.

Other Areas of the Library
Brookens Library allows use of its lounges and other open areas for university sponsored displays, events, and activities as long as they do not disrupt the normal use of the library. Inquiries for use of other library areas can be directed to the Library Administration.
