Maria Spengler chose the University of Illinois Springfield because of the Graduate Public Service Internship (GPSI) and athletic programs. Spengler is a member of the UIS Women’s Volleyball team and is an intern for the Illinois Innocence Project at UIS through the GPSI program. At the Illinois Innocence Project, Spengler is able to help wrongfully convicted individuals prove their innocence. She expressed her excitement about the hands-on experience she is gaining while also making an impact in people’s lives. She enjoys the career possibilities that UIS offers students. Following graduating from UIS, she plans to attend law school.
