copyleaks

Due to the increasing cost of licensing Turnitin, as well as their decision to charge extra for AI detection tools, UIS has moved to Copyleaks as our campus plagiarism and AI content detection tool. A pilot was conducted during the Spring 2024 semester, and the results indicated that Copyleaks is a good fit for UIS.

Copyleaks fully integrates with Canvas for ease of use for instructors and students. It helps to identify copied or plagiarized content. An AI detection tool is included inside Copyleaks. AI detection is not included as part of the similarity score in SpeedGrader. Rather, it is a separate piece of data that can only be accessed within the full Copyleaks report.

Remember that AI detection is not foolproof and may produce false positives, especially for students whose first language is not English. Use Copyleaks AI detection results as one data point and a starting point for discussion rather than definitive evidence of academic dishonesty.

Faculty and student resources, including detailed instructions and video tutorials, are available. The COLRS Academic Integrity page contains additional resources on Copyleaks.

During this workshop, Copyleaks staff will demonstrate how to use the tool in Canvas. Afterward, COLRS and ITS staff will be available to help you set up the Copyleaks tool in your Canvas courses. Click here to join the Zoom Meeting or join us in person in Brookens 416.
