Enhancing Digital Media Literacy in the Post-Truth Era

In an age where misinformation and disinformation spread rapidly through digital platforms, fostering digital media literacy is more crucial than ever. This session explores the complexities of communication in the digital era, the role of epistemology in understanding truth, and the impact of cognitive biases on belief formation. Participants will learn to distinguish between misinformation, disinformation, and counter-knowledge while examining the influence of selective windowing, confirmation bias, and motivated reasoning. By evaluating sources, identifying expertise, and applying fact-checking strategies, educators can empower students to critically engage with media and navigate the challenges of the post-truth world.
