Faculty Scholarship Series: Custodians of the Word in
the Digital Age: Digital Literacies, English Studies, and the New/Old Curriculum
What does it look like to “do” the work of English Studies–a discipline defined by the study of the word–in a digital age, where word is (re)mediated through emergent digital technologies? The answer begins with word itself, as one of the earliest human technologies, and ends now in the age of Social Media and cell phones. This presentation traces the complicated history between word, technology, and the study thereof before turning to a discussion of the practicalities of incorporating digital literacies into modern English Studies research and teaching practices
