Part 1: Unlearning Assessment

Ask any group of faculty members how they feel about assessment and you will likely hear words such as “tedious,” “busywork,” or “unhelpful.” Although concerns that faculty may have about assessment are real, many of their frustrations stem from misconceptions about what assessment is (and what it isn’t). The first session in this four-part series seeks to dispel common myths about assessment and reframe assessment as a value-adding experience for students, rather than as an administrative burden. Attendees will explore different philosophies of assessment, consider new ideas for approaching assessment, and reconsider the roles of faculty, administrators, and students in the assessment process.
