Teaching Teaching to Teach Science: Student Led Learning in Plant-Animal Interactions

Dr. Stokes (and his students) will share his experience with a transformative approach to teaching an upper-level biology elective, Plant-Animal Interactions, where student-led teaching has served as the cornerstone for engagement and learning.

In this course, students assumed the role of educators by presenting scientific content, creating interactive activities, and designing assessments. This approach has not only deepened students' understanding of complex material but has also built their confidence in developing scientific presentations, engaging in scientific discussions, and thinking critically. This experience has fostered a more collaborative learning environment than the traditional classroom and has allowed students to take ownership of their learning.
