Country Admission Requirements
The University of Illinois Springfield offers two options for applicants with international credentials to submit their supporting materials to us:
- An evaluation completed by a staff member at UIS
- An external evaluation of their academic credentials through a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES)
An application for admission will not be reviewed until a credential evaluation has been completed. Credentials submitted for evaluation must also be considered official. A document is considered official when it is issued directly by the high school, college, or university where the credential was earned to UIS or the selected NACES member for evaluation.
Transcript evaluation by UIS staff
Applicants who wish to request a University of Illinois Springfield credential evaluation will have to pay a non-refundable $150 credential evaluation fee through their admissions status page and provide UIS with the required documents based on the country or countries where you studied.
If the official credentials are not in English, a certified translation of the credentials must also be submitted. Please review a list of approved translators for your academic credentials:
- ATA (American Translators Association)
- Institution Translation
- Ministry of Education Translation
- NACES member organization (list below)
- US Consulate
- Education USA Office
Your official documents can be mailed to:
University of Illinois Springfield
Office of Admissions
One University Plaza UHB 1080
Springfield, IL 62703

If your institution wants to send the documents to us electronically, they can be uploaded through the Common Application (secondary school students only) or emailed to incomingtranscripts@uis.edu. The sender must use an institutional email address. Transcripts received from non-institutional email addresses, such as gmail, yahoo, hotmail, etc will not be accepted. UIS will also not accept forwarded emails with attached credentials.
NACES Member Evaluation
Members of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) provide credential translation and evaluation services.
UIS requires that evaluations include certified copies of the documents used to conduct the evaluation. If certified copies of the academic record are not included in the evaluation, you will be responsible for requesting the official documents to be sent to UIS from each institution attended, along with an English translation (if applicable).
When requesting an evaluation, you must request a United States equivalent evaluation, not a Canadian equivalent evaluation.
UIS has prepared a list of preferred evaluation companies and the type of evaluation needed based on the level of study you are pursuing. It is your responsibility to ensure the correct evaluation is requested. If you send the wrong type of evaluation, your application will not be reviewed until the required evaluation is received.
