Carl Burts chose the University of Illinois Springfield because of “what the school had to offer to help me grow as a person,” he said. On campus, Burts is a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated, the Black Male Collegiate Society and Necessary Steps. “What I like most about UIS is all the different organizations that help me with skills that I can apply to the real world after graduation,” he said. Following graduation, he plans to earn his master’s degree.
