Hometown: Chatham, Illinois
Major: Communication
Future Plans: Work as a public relation specialist
Transfer student Jaylon Cal chose the University of Illinois Springfield because of the “deep connections that you are able to make, whether it be with the students, faculty or staff,” he said. This semester, Cal is interning with Faith Coalition for the Common Good where he’s learning how to effectively communicate with others and become an active listener. He is helping with fundraising, aiding in youth events and being an advocate for the community. “This organization is truly trying to get me further in life and does not see me as an intern,” he said. “They want the best for me and the communities of Illinois.” Following graduation from UIS, he plans to work as a public relation specialist and an advocate for the community and other organizations such, such as the Juvenile Diabetic Research Foundation.
Leadership is lived at UIS. Every day.
